Chapter 8

Dad taps his finger on the counter as he listens to what Yuuto and I are saying about Kaidou. “So, you’re saying that Kaidou and the other three who were dead happen to be the contract killers from Hanabi? On top of that, he also knew that both of you are working for PSIA,” he says to us. Both of us nod our heads. “Not only that, but he also asks you to date him if you wish to keep everything a secret,” Mr. Sakakibara says to us.

Dad can’t help but chuckle at Mr. Sakakibara’s word. “This guy sure is cheeky, huh?” I groan at dad’s reaction. Part of me feels that I should tell them about my decision to date Kaidou. But now, I somewhat regret my decision for telling them about it. “So, what’s your answer? Do you agree to go on a date with him?” Dad asks me. I nod my head, looking flushed. “That was the only thing he asked from me. And I’m okay with that because I’m not doing anything risky.”

Dad only sighs when he hears my answer. I can tell that he doesn’t look too pleased that I agree to date Kaidou. I understand his concern because Kaidou isn’t the typical high-schooler. He’s a contract killer, for heaven’s sake. No father is sane enough to let his daughter date a contract killer no matter how amazing he is. Even if Kaidou means no harm to me and I can fend for myself if anything does happen to me, it’s still a risky ordeal.

“I bet that you would still date him even if he doesn’t threaten to expose your secret, right?” Dad asks me again. I only look down when dad is asking me. He seems to realize that I will still date Kaidou even if he’s not threatening me. We didn’t tell him about the whole thing that was happening on the rooftop. I have a feeling that they’re going to laugh at me for having such a melodramatic high school love story.

None of us are saying anything after that. Mr. Sakakibara sighs when he sees how dad and I look tense because of this. “I don’t know what this guy was eating when he was asking Touka for a date. But to have someone like him resorting to this method, he sure does want to date her no matter what. He may only be a contract killer from Hanabi. But he still behaves like your typical regular guy. It looks to me that he does like Touka regardless of she has a secret or not.”

Mr. Sakakibara then turns to dad. “Give it up, Minoru. Touka is no longer a child anymore. You can’t stop her from dating a guy and getting married later in her life. Let her date whoever she wants even if the guy happens to be a contract killer.” Yuuto who has been silent all this time chuckles when he hears what Mr. Sakakibara is saying. I turn to look in Yuuto’s direction, giving him a piercing gaze for laughing at me.
